Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Commerce, Senator Muhammad Amin Dadabhoy has said that it is essential for the government to introduce clear-cut policies on provincial and zonal level for the country to progress; otherwise Pakistan will lose all its international markets.

Speaking to members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that the country would be free of its various crisis such as wheat crisis and power crisis once proper policies are introduced.

Dadabhoy said that the new government needs to look at “the larger picture” and do something for the entire industry otherwise “there will be no industrialisation and Pakistan will be left only as a trading house.” Dadabhoy stated that the fact that ministries of industries and commerce is separate in Pakistan, each with its individual ministers/chairmen, is also adding to the confusion in policies as ideally both should come under one banner, being inter related in so many aspects.

Chairperson of Senate Standing Committee on Industries, Production and Special Initiative, Senator Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli said that her committee had come into being just three months ago, to assess the potentials and problems faced by the business community of Pakistan.

She said that her team had visited the KCCI to pay attention to their budget proposals which she would be then presenting in front of the senate before the budget is announced to see how they can make it business friendly.

Leader of the business community, Siraj Kassim Teli requested the visiting senators to ensure that a trade ordinance that had been passed during the last ruling government remained intact and there were no amendments made to it.

He said that the trade ordinance had been made after discussions with the entire business community’s consensus and prevented fake chambers and associations from materialising.

He added “Often disagreements between political parties lead to ordinances being also either abolished or amended, and therefore I request the new government not to ignore this ordinance and neither to leave any gap in the law which would help fake chambers from establishing themselves.”
